Old postcards Stills from the film

The Soviet postcards with film stills in this subsection come mainly from two print years, 1973 and 1982. Most show a scene from a film that was recent at the time, and the caption gives the film title and the actors in the frame. A few cards were issued separately, in 1971 and 1985.

The 1973 cards mostly cover films from 1972. Hot Snow, a war drama directed by Gavriil Egiazarov from Yuri Bondarev’s novel, is represented among others by Georgy Zhzhonov as General Bessonov. From Alexander Mitta’s musical comedy Dot, Dot, Comma… there is a scene with Yuri Nikulin and Tatyana Nikulina, who played the hero’s parents, and the young Sergei Danchenko. Alexei Saltykov’s two-part Siberian Woman (Sibiryachka), released in March 1973, also appears.

The 1982 cards turn to films from around 1980. Jan Frid’s 1981 television film Silva, based on Imre Kálmán’s operetta, is shown through Zhanna Glebova in the title role and Vitaly Solomin as Count Boni. Leonid Menaker’s drama The Last Escape (1980), made at the Lenfilm studio, has separate cards with Mikhail Ulyanov and Alexei Serebryakov, and Vladimir Bortko’s melodrama My Dad Is an Idealist (1980) is represented by Natalya Varley.

Because captions usually list everyone in the frame, the cards are also a handy way to trace supporting actors.
