Historical note

Moskovsky Prospekt (formerly Smolenskoye Highway) underwent active development in the post-war years, becoming one of Vitebsk’s main transport arteries. The 1,220-seat “Belarus” cinema was opened in 1972 as the city’s largest cultural and entertainment venue of its time, based on a standard Soviet design adapted by local architects.

Present day

In the modern era, the former “Belarus” cinema building was reconstructed and repurposed as a shopping and entertainment center. Moskovsky Prospekt remains a key city thoroughfare with busy car and tram traffic.
