What is shown on the postcard

Historical note

The first railway station in Vitebsk opened in 1866 as part of the Dinaburg-Vitebsk railway line. The historic station building was destroyed during World War II. The new monumental building shown on the postcard was constructed in 1952, designed by the prominent Soviet architect Boris Mezentsev.

Present day

In the post-Soviet period, the station complex underwent a major renovation in the late 2000s. The building preserved its original mid-20th-century architectural appearance, including neoclassical decorative elements and the design of the arched windows. Today, the Vitebsk-Passazhirsky station continues to serve as a key transport hub of the Belarusian Railway.
