Card Administrative building. Vitebsk, 1976

This 1976 Soviet postcard features a historic building in Vitebsk, which housed the administrative department of the veterinary institute during the Soviet era.

What is shown on the postcard

The image shows the main facade of a three-story ochre-yellow brick building decorated with white architectural details. The center of the composition features a grand entrance with a monumental triple-arched porch supporting a second-floor balcony. The second-floor windows display distinctive semicircular and keel-shaped arches, while the roofline is adorned with a decorative parapet and metal railing. Green trees and a paved area are visible in the foreground.

Historical note

The building was constructed in 1902 based on a design by diocesan architect A. Pavlovsky for the Vitebsk Women’s Diocesan School. The complex blended elements of the Russian Revival style with brick eclectic design. In the 1920s, the building was transferred to the newly established veterinary and zootechnical institute (later the Vitebsk Veterinary Institute).

Present day

Today, the building serves as the main academic building of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine (VSAVM). This early 20th-century architectural monument is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus.
