What is shown on the postcard

The image presents a panorama of Privokzalnaya Square, dominated by two symmetrical 11-story tower buildings, framing the entrance to the square from the city side. The left building is topped with a large clock, while the right one features a decorative crenellated top. Trolleybuses, buses, and passenger cars, as well as numerous pedestrians, are visible on the square. The architectural style of the buildings is Stalinist Empire.

Historical note

Privokzalnaya Square began to form in the late 19th century after the construction of the railway station. The square acquired its modern appearance after World War II, when the city was almost completely destroyed and rebuilt. The «Gates of Minsk» were erected in 1953. The building with the clock (Kirova St 2) was built on the foundation of a pre-revolutionary income house, while the right one (Kirova St 1) was constructed entirely anew. The clock on the left tower is the largest in Belarus.

Present day

Today, Privokzalnaya Square remains one of Minsk’s key transport hubs and landmarks. The «Gates of Minsk» have retained their function as residential buildings and continue to serve as an architectural symbol of the city, greeting guests arriving at the railway station. The square is actively used as a transportation hub and meeting point.
