A collectible 1983 Soviet postcard showing Karbysheva Street in the Zelyony Lug residential district of Minsk.
What is shown on the postcard
The photograph captures the architecture of Karbysheva Street in spring. Flowering fruit trees are visible in the foreground. In the background, there are multi-story Soviet apartment buildings from the late 1970s and early 1980s, including tower blocks and a long multi-section building.
Historical note
The Zelyony Lug microdistrict was constructed from the 1960s to the 1980s in northeastern Minsk. The district was designed by a team of architects led by Y. Shpit. Karbysheva Street, named after the Hero of the Soviet Union Dmitry Karbyshev, was developed primarily with high-rise prefabricated and brick panel blocks.
Present day
Today, Karbysheva Street retains its Soviet-era urban layout. The Zelyony Lug district is recognized as one of the greenest and most ecologically clean areas of Minsk, largely due to its proximity to the Slepyanka Water System and nearby forest parks.
