What is shown on the postcard

The postcard depicts a monument to V.I. Lenin on a high pedestal with the inscription “ЛЕНИН”. In the background, a multi-story hotel building is visible with a large inscription in three languages: “ГОТЕЛЬ УКРАЇНА HOTEL”. In the foreground, figures of passersby and square landscaping elements can be seen.

Historical note

During the Soviet period, central squares of major Ukrainian cities were developed according to standard urban planning canons, which included the mandatory placement of monuments to party figures. The Ukraine Hotel and the surrounding area served as an important administrative and public hub of the city.

Present day

Currently, the architectural appearance of the square has changed: the monument was dismantled as part of decommunization, and the hotel building itself and the surrounding area have been renovated to meet modern urban requirements.
