Historical note
Zhovtneva Square began to take shape during the post-war decades when Dniprodzerzhynsk experienced rapid growth, fueled by the construction of mass housing for local metallurgical and chemical plant workers. The postcard captures a typical late-1960s Soviet industrial city view, complete with monumental propaganda and urban landscaping of the era.
Present day
As part of decommunization, Zhovtneva Square was renamed Liberators Square (Ploshcha Vyzvolyteliv), and the city of Dniprodzerzhynsk reclaimed its historic name, Kamianske, in 2016. The metal stela with the star has been dismantled. The surrounding residential buildings generally retain their original forms, with modern store signs and minor facade updates on the ground floors.
