What is shown on the postcard

The foreground features an artificial pond with a curved shoreline reinforced with stones. Small islets with decorative vegetation, including a weeping willow, are visible in the water. People dressed in early 1970s summer attire stroll along the paved pedestrian path. In the background, there is a dense pine forest, with a multi-story sanatorium-type building rising behind it.

Historical note

The 50th Anniversary of October Park was established in 1967 on a sandy wasteland by local residents and landscape designers. The landscape design featured a cascade of artificial lakes, streams, and bridges integrated into the natural pine forest on the bank of the Dnieper River. For the creation of this unique garden and park complex, the designers were awarded the State Taras Shevchenko Prize of the Ukrainian SSR.

Present day

Today, the park is named “Sosnovyi Bor” (formerly “Yuvileinyi”) and is recognized as a monument of landscape art of national importance. The system of ponds and cascades has been preserved and remains a popular recreational spot for locals and tourists in Cherkasy.
