What is shown on the postcard
The postcard shows the main facade of the two-story white-stone building with a monumental portico consisting of six columns and topped with a triangular pediment. Wide entrance stairs with a balustrade lead to the main entrance. In the foreground, tree branches, a decorative metal fence, and parked Soviet vintage cars are visible.
Historical note
The building was originally constructed in 1808–1811 as the Governor-General House, based on a design by the prominent architect Adriyan Zakharov. During World War II, the architectural landmark was severely damaged and completely burned down. It was restored in 1954–1956 under the supervision of architect D. S. Chernoshchekov to house the Poltava Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine.
Present day
Today, this building on Round Square houses the Poltava Regional Council of Trade Unions. As a monument of national architectural significance, it completely retains its historic classical appearance.
