Historical note
The development of Khmelnyk as a balneological resort began after the discovery of radon mineral waters here in 1934 during a search for drinking water. Today, the city of Khmelnyk maintains its status as a resort of state significance in Ukraine. Many of the historical Soviet buildings have been modernized, rebuilt, or replaced by newer medical facilities, though the surrounding parks and forests continue to serve recreational purposes.
