What is shown on the postcard
The postcard shows the main facade of the theatre with its dome and roof sculpture. In front of the entrance is a semi-circular driveway with lawns and flowerbeds. The Soviet slogan ‘Slava KPSS’ (Glory to the CPSU) is visible on the roof.
Historical note
The theatre building was constructed in 1904–1905 according to the design of the famous Viennese architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer. During the Soviet period, the theatre was named after the Ukrainian writer Olha Kobylianska.
Present day
Today, the building functions as the Chernivtsi Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre named after Olha Kobylianska and is designated as an architectural monument of national significance. The Soviet-era slogans have been removed.
