Historical note
The theatre building was constructed in 1905 designed by the famous Viennese architects Fellner & Helmer as the Town Theatre. In the Soviet era, it was named after the Ukrainian writer Olha Kobylianska. The large monument to Kobylianska now standing in front of the theatre was installed later; on this 1968 postcard, only a small bust or earlier monument on a pedestal is visible to the left of the entrance.
Present day
Today, the building houses the Chernivtsi Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre named after Olha Kobylianska. The monument to Kobylianska is now positioned centrally in front of the main entrance, and the Soviet roof slogans have been removed. The building is designated as an architectural monument of national significance.
