What is shown on the postcard

The postcard shows a memorial complex: a sculpture of a Soviet soldier wearing a greatcoat and holding a submachine gun is mounted on a high stone pedestal. To the right of the pedestal is a concrete memorial wall listing fallen local residents, decorated with a relief of the Order of the Patriotic War and the years “1941-1945”. The area is enclosed by a low chain fence and surrounded by trees.

Historical note

The settlement of Uralo-Kavkaz was established in the early 20th century around coal mines. During World War II, many local residents joined the army. The monument over the mass grave of Soviet soldiers was erected in the post-war period to commemorate the fallen defenders and liberators of the region.

Present day

The memorial complex in Uralo-Kavkaz has survived to this day. It remains the main venue for local commemorative events dedicated to the events of World War II.
