Historical note
The first monument to the prominent Ukrainian writer Olha Kobylianska in Chernivtsi was unveiled in 1963 on Theatre Square. The sculptors of this monument were Halyna Kalchenko and Klavdiya Kotsiubynska. In 1980, this monument was replaced with a new full-figure statue of the writer sitting in a chair, while the original bust was relocated to the Kobylianska Museum-Estate in the village of Dymka, Chernivtsi Oblast.
Present day
Today, a newer monument to Kobylianska, created by sculptors A. Skyba and M. Myroshnychenko, stands on Theatre Square in front of the Music and Drama Theatre. The location where the photograph was taken remains the central part of the square and a key landmark of Chernivtsi.
