What is shown on the postcard
The foreground of the postcard shows the pedestrian area in front of the main entrance to the academic building. On the left, there is a vertical decorative stela listing memorable Soviet-era dates (1920, 1931, 1945, 1948, 1956). The plaza features flower beds, young spruce, and deciduous trees. On the right side, a white GAZ-21 “Volga” passenger car is parked.
Historical note
The history of the institution began in 1920 with the establishment of the Luhansk People’s Technicum. In 1960, it was reorganized into the Luhansk Machine Building Institute (LMI). The complex of buildings in the Molodizhny Quarter was constructed during the 1960s and 1970s to meet the demand of the major industrial hub for engineering specialists.
Present day
Today, the buildings of the former machine-building institute form the core campus of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. The architectural design of the modernist blocks remains largely intact, though the surrounding plaza and landscaping have been modified over time.
