Historical note

The Brest Fortress-Hero Memorial Complex was officially inaugurated on September 25, 1971. Its main entrance is a reinforced concrete block measuring 44 meters long and 18 meters high, with a star-shaped gateway carved through it. The structure commemorates the defense of the fortress by Soviet soldiers who faced the initial German attack on June 22, 1941.

Present day

The ‘Star’ main entrance remains fully preserved in its original historical state and is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Brest. It is maintained as a key part of Belarus’s state registry of historical and cultural heritage and is visited by thousands of tourists daily.
