What is shown on the postcard
The postcard shows a bronze sculpture of V. I. Lenin mounted on a rectangular red granite pedestal. The front of the pedestal features the carved inscription “ЛЕНІН”. In the background, Soviet-era multi-story residential and administrative buildings are visible, along with green trees, street details, and a passing car.
Historical note
The monument was officially inaugurated in November 1965 on the city’s central square, known during the Soviet period as Lenin Square (currently Freedom Square). The monument’s authors were sculptors Yu. Lokhovinin, L. Rodionov, and architects Ye. Aleksandrov, G. Sidorenko. It functioned as the focal point of the square where official rallies and parades took place.
Present day
In February 2014, the monument to V. I. Lenin in Kherson was dismantled. The pedestal was temporarily used for Ukrainian symbols and was subsequently removed. Today, Freedom Square is cleared of Soviet monuments.
