This 1973 Soviet postcard features the newly constructed academic building of the Cherkasy Financial Technical School.
What is shown on the postcard
The photograph showcases a four-story modernist building constructed of light-colored brick, featuring characteristic rectangular windows. To the right is an adjacent windowless single-story wing decorated with a textured relief facade. In front of the building, there is an asphalted forecourt, pedestrian paths made of concrete slabs, young lawns, and several pedestrians. Other urban structures and vacant lots on the city’s outskirts are visible in the background on the left.
Historical note
The Cherkasy Financial Technical School was established in the 1960s to train specialists for the Soviet financial system. The school’s new building, situated on the outskirts of the city along Kirova Street (now Viacheslava Chornovola Street), was commissioned in the early 1970s to accommodate the growing student body.
Present day
Today, this building houses the Cherkasy State Business College, a leading specialized educational institution in the region. The exterior of the main building has largely retained its Soviet modernist architectural features, though the surrounding area has been significantly landscaped and modernized.
