What is shown on the postcard
The foreground features a tall, rectangular vertical obelisk clad in light stone tiles. To the left of its base sits a massive horizontal concrete block inscribed with the years ‘1941–1943’. Historical note
The monument was erected over the mass grave of Soviet soldiers who fell during the battles to liberate the town of Krasnodon (now Sorokyne) and the surrounding district in February 1943. The Krasnodon district had been occupied by German forces from July 1942 until February 1943. The postcard was published in 1975 as part of a series dedicated to the memorial sites of the Donbas region.
Present day
Today, the memorial complex in the park of Sorokyne retains its status as a local historical monument. Memorial ceremonies dedicated to the events of World War II continue to take place at the site.
