What is shown on the postcard
The left image displays a Soviet MiG-21 supersonic jet fighter mounted on a high concrete pylon, soaring into the blue sky. Historical note
The monument to the hero pilots was inaugurated in 1974 to honor the graduates of the Luhansk Higher Military Aviation School. The memorial square dedicated to the fighters of the revolution was developed during the Soviet era, featuring busts of key civil war participants in the Donbas region. The local history museum building visible in the background was completed in 1976, designed by architect G. Golovchenko.
Present day
Both landmarks survive to this day. The airplane monument remains a recognizable symbol of the Ostraya Mogila district. The local history museum and the Square of the Fighters of the Revolution continue to define the architectural identity of Luhansk’s historic center, despite minor changes to the surrounding urban infrastructure over the decades.
