Historical note
During the Soviet period (from 1946 to 1993), Halytska and Soborna Squares were merged under the single name of Reunification Square, commemorating the 1939 incorporation of Western Ukraine into the Ukrainian SSR. The main architectural landmark here is the former Bernardine Church (now the Greek Catholic Church of St. Andrew), built in the early 17th century.
Present day
Today, the square has been restored to its historic layout, split into Soborna and Halytska Squares. The church serves active worship as the Church of St. Andrew. The entire architectural ensemble is preserved and protected as part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.
