What is shown on the postcard
The postcard shows the main facade of the monumental Neo-Renaissance building. Visible are the grand entrance with granite steps, three flagpoles in front of it, a massive projection (risalit) with columns and arched windows. The building is crowned with a characteristic green mansard dome featuring a skylight. The inscription ‘МУЗЕЙ В. И. ЛЕНИНА’ (Lenin Museum) is clearly readable on the frieze above the entrance. Figures of pedestrians are visible in the foreground.
Historical note
The building was constructed in 1898–1904 designed by architect Józef Janowski to house the City Industrial Museum (Museum of Artistic Industries). From 1950 to 1990, it housed the Lviv branch of the Central Lenin Museum, opened to mark the 80th anniversary of his birth.
Present day
Today, the building serves as the main exhibition building of the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv. The architectural monument has been completely preserved, Soviet inscriptions have been removed from the facade, and the current exposition is dedicated to Ukrainian art.
