What is shown on the postcard
The image captures the perspective of Moskovskaya Street stretching into the distance. Rare vehicle traffic for that era is seen in the center of the road, including a red LAZ-695M passenger bus and Soviet passenger cars. Tall poplar trees line both sides of the roadway. Five-story brick Khrushchev-era apartment buildings are visible on the left, while three nine-story tower-type residential buildings of the 1-447C series, built in the early 1970s, stand on the right.
Historical note
Moskovskaya Street is one of Brest’s main transport arteries, connecting the historical city center with eastern residential districts. The Kobrin Overpass, from which the photo was taken, was constructed over the railway lines to eliminate a level crossing and improve traffic flow. The development of this section of the street took place during the 1960s and 1970s under the city’s master plan, which emphasized modern residential housing balanced with green infrastructure.
Present day
Today, Moskovskaya Street has been significantly widened to accommodate more traffic lanes. The Kobrin Overpass underwent a major reconstruction in 2018–2019 as part of the preparations for Brest’s 1000th anniversary. The old poplars along the road have been replaced with other greenery, while the original 1960s–1970s residential buildings remain and have been modernized.
