This collectible 1968 postcard shows the monumental facade of the Odessa Railway Station facing Pryvokzalna Square.

What is shown on the postcard

The image captures the grand station building with its central dome and spire. In front of the building is the spacious Pryvokzalna Square, paved with cobblestones, where pedestrians are walking. Trolleybus wires, street lamps, and green trees on both sides of the square are also visible.

Historical note

The original station building, built in the 1880s, was destroyed in 1944 during World War II operations. The new Odessa-Main railway station building was erected in 1952 according to the design of Soviet architect Leonid Chuprin, combining classical elements with monumental Soviet Empire style.

Present day

Today, the station building retains its historical appearance and continues to operate as the city’s main railway hub. Pryvokzalna Square has undergone partial reconstruction and transport pattern adjustments, but the architectural centerpiece remains unchanged.
