What is shown on the postcard

The image shows the monument to the Soviet soldier-liberator, mounted on a tall, rectangular pedestal made of light-grey stone. The bronze figure of the soldier is depicted wearing a helmet and a military cloak, holding a submachine gun in his right hand and the shaft of a large unfurled banner in his left.

The front of the pedestal features a relief wreath containing the years “1941–1945” and a commemorative plaque below it. The monument is surrounded by lush green trees, with a flowerbed of red flowers at its base. Two pedestrians are visible walking in the lower right corner.

Historical note

The monument was dedicated to the Soviet soldiers who liberated Kremenchuk from German occupation in September 1943 during the Battle of the Dnieper. It was erected in the post-war period at a major street intersection to honor the military divisions that fought for the city.

Present day

Today, the monument remains at the intersection of Svobody Avenue and Khalamenyuka Street. In the context of Ukraine’s decommunization and derussification policies, the status and future of Soviet-era military monuments are subject to ongoing public and administrative debate.
