What is shown on the postcard
The postcard shows the Main Pavilion with its monumental dome and high gilded spire topped with a star. In the foreground, numerous visitors dressed in 1960s summer fashion stroll across the central square, which is framed by two massive Corinthian-style propylaea. A small passenger aircraft on display is visible in the background in front of the colonnade.
Historical note
The Republican Exhibition was constructed between 1952 and 1958 under the supervision of a group of architects led by V. D. Yelizarov. The complex officially opened on July 6, 1958. The Main Pavilion, standing approximately 65 meters tall including the spire, became the focal point of the exhibition ensemble, designed in the solemn style of Soviet neoclassical architecture incorporating Ukrainian Baroque elements.
Present day
Today, the complex operates as the National Expocenter of Ukraine (VDNG). The architectural ensemble of the pavilion is designated as a local architectural monument. Under decommunization laws, Soviet symbols on the facades have been covered or removed, but the building itself retains its original proportions and is actively used for hosting cultural events and exhibitions.
