Historical note

The Taras Shevchenko Monument in Kyiv was officially unveiled on March 6, 1939, to mark the 125th anniversary of the poet’s birth. The monument was designed by sculptor Matvey Manizer and architect Yevgeny Levinson. It was erected on the site where a monument to the Russian Emperor Nicholas I stood until 1918.

Present day

Today, the monument and the surrounding Taras Shevchenko Park remain a key cultural and historical landmark in Kyiv. The monument is designated as a monument of monumental art of national significance and serves as a traditional venue for official and public events.
