Historical note
The square is located on Kropyvnytskyi Square (formerly Solarni, later Solskich Square). The main landmark of this area is the former Church of St. Elizabeth, built in the early 20th century in the Neo-Gothic style according to the design of architect Teodor Talowski. During the Soviet period (since 1946), the church was closed and used as a warehouse, but its exterior architectural grandeur remained a key element of the cityscape. The square in front of it served as a recreation area.
Present day
Today, the square is named after the Ukrainian writer and playwright Marko Kropyvnytskyi. The historic church has been handed over to the Greek Catholic community and functions as the Church of Saints Olga and Elizabeth. The square is well-maintained, retaining its green spaces and pedestrian pathways.
