Historical note
Construction of the Grand City Theater in Lviv began in 1897 according to the design of architect Zygmunt Gorgolewski and was completed in 1900. In the Soviet period, in 1956, the theater was named after the writer Ivan Franko. The monument to V. I. Lenin in front of the theater, designed by sculptor S. Merkurov, was unveiled in 1952.
Present day
Today, the theater is named after the outstanding Ukrainian singer Solomiya Krushelnytska. The Lenin monument in front of the building was dismantled in September 1990. The square in front of the theater was reconstructed and now features a pedestrian dry fountain.
