A 1971 postcard depicting the club and dining hall of the famous Soviet sanatorium “Khrustalny Dvorets” in the resort city of Truskavets.
What is shown on the postcard
The postcard shows the two-story club and dining hall building of the “Khrustalny Dvorets” (Crystal Palace) sanatorium in Truskavets. Built in the Soviet neoclassicism style, the facade of the second floor features a massive portico with a colonnade of round columns. Symmetrical lateral staircases with balustrades lead to the main entrance on the first floor.
In front of the building, there is an open terrace with a metal railing of an original geometric pattern. The foreground features a green lawn with fallen autumn leaves and ornamental conifers. In the background, trees of the park area and silhouettes of several holidaymakers are visible.
Historical note
Founded in 1945, the “Khrustalny Dvorets” sanatorium was for a long time one of the most prestigious health resorts in Truskavets, serving the highest party and state officials of the USSR. The complex of buildings, including the club and dining hall, was constructed in the post-war decades, surrounded by a vast forest-park area.
The club-dining building combined the functions of providing meals for holidaymakers and hosting cultural events, film screenings, and concerts.
Present day
Today, the “Khrustalny Dvorets” sanatorium continues to operate in independent Ukraine, managed by the State Affairs Administration. The club and dining hall building has preserved its architectural appearance, including the monumental colonnade, though it has undergone cosmetic renovations to meet modern hospitality standards. The surrounding park territory remains well-maintained.
