This 1971 postcard shows the monumental main entrance to the Gorka Sanatorium, located in the balneological resort town of Truskavets, Ukrainian SSR.

What is shown on the postcard

In the foreground, part of a light blue passenger car (presumably a GAZ-21 Volga) is visible on the left. Behind it stands the grand entrance archway of the Gorka Sanatorium, built in the Stalinist Empire style. The structure features a semi-circular colonnade with a central arched gateway topped by a decorative finial. The spaces between the columns are secured with metal iron gates and fences. Lush green trees of the park zone are visible through the archway, and a flowerbed is in the lower right corner.

Historical note

The Gorka Sanatorium was established in the post-war years on a hill in Truskavets, near the central resort park. The monumental neoclassical entrance arch with its colonnade became a recognizable architectural symbol of Soviet-era Truskavets. Later, this sanatorium complex was reorganized and integrated into the Truskavets Military Sanatorium.

Present day

Today, the historic entrance arch has survived and is located on the grounds of the Truskavets Military Sanatorium (currently the Central Military Clinical Sanatorium “Truskavetsky”) at the intersection of Shevchenko and Heroiv UPA streets. The structure’s appearance has undergone minor cosmetic updates, but it retains its original architectural composition.
