What is shown on the postcard

The postcard shows a memorial complex featuring a massive concrete arch decorated with bas-reliefs of Soviet soldiers and a dark vertical stone pylon with a high-relief of a soldier’s head in a helmet. Memorial plaques over a mass grave are situated in front of the monument, enclosed by a low decorative metal chain. In the foreground, three people (a woman and two men in suits) are placing flowers. The area is paved with square concrete tiles.

Historical note

The Memorial of Glory in Truskavets was built during the Soviet era to commemorate Red Army soldiers who died in the region during World War II. The complex included a communal grave of Soviet military personnel.

Present day

As part of Ukraine’s decommunization and de-russification initiatives, the local authorities dismantled the monument between 2022 and 2023. The Soviet-era structures were removed, and the remains from the mass grave were exhumed and reburied in the municipal cemetery of Truskavets.
