What is shown on the postcard
The foreground on the right features the detailed facade of a two-story historic dark-brick building with a semi-circular dome, pilasters, a round-arched attic window, and stucco decorations. In the background on the left, another eclectic corner building with a decorative dome-topped tower is visible. The foreground shows a pedestrian zone with passersby, young trees with autumn foliage, and tree branches framing the shot from above.
Historical note
Dvortsova Street (known as Lenin Street during the Soviet era) is one of the oldest central thoroughfares of the city, laid out in the mid-19th century. The buildings shown in the photograph were constructed at the turn of the 20th century during Yelisavetgrad’s period of active urban development. The building on the right was originally the Petrograd International Commercial Bank, designed by architect Alexander Pauchenko.
Present day
Today, the street remains the main pedestrian zone of Kropyvnytskyi. The historic buildings have been restored and are protected as local architectural monuments. The former bank building currently houses financial and administrative offices.
