A 1984 collectible postcard showing the Monument to the Komsomol Generations of Kirovohrad Region in Kirovohrad (now Kropyvnytskyi).
What is shown on the postcard
The postcard depicts a monumental landmark — a bronze sculpture of a young woman holding a torch in her raised hand against a stylized orbital ribbon. The monument stands on a low granite pedestal. To the right is a memorial slab inscribed “КОМСОМОЛЬСКИМ ПОКОЛЕНИЯМ…” (To Komsomol Generations…). In the foreground, three young girls in summer clothing stand with their backs to the camera. The background features park trees and a section of a multi-story residential building.
Historical note
The Monument to the Komsomol Generations of Kirovohrad Region was opened in October 1978 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Komsomol. The sculptural composition symbolized the continuity of Soviet youth generations. Located in a scenic park area along the embankment of the Inhul River, it served as a popular venue for official youth events and citizen strolls.
Present day
As part of decommunization laws in Ukraine, the monument was dismantled in 2016. Today, both the pedestal and the sculpture have been removed, and the park area (now Youth Park) has undergone reconstruction.
