What is shown on the postcard
The postcard depicts a tall, upward-tapering concrete obelisk erected on a stone pedestal in the middle of a park area. The front of the obelisk features a high-relief figure of a young man wearing a greatcoat and a budenovka hat, with a rifle slung over his shoulder. At the foot of the monument, in front of a small flowerbed, stand two women in summer attire. The monument is surrounded by tall deciduous trees and shrubs.
Historical note
The monument to the Komsomol members of the 1920s was unveiled in Myrhorod in 1968. Situated in a park on the banks of the Khorol River, the monument was dedicated to the memory of the city’s early Komsomol members who participated in the events of the Civil War. It served as an element of Soviet monumental propaganda and was a popular sightseeing location for visitors of the Myrhorod resort.
Present day
In accordance with decommunization laws in Ukraine, the monument to the Komsomol members of the 1920s in Myrhorod was dismantled in 2016. The park where the monument once stood continues to serve as a public green recreational zone on the banks of the Khorol River, close to the bridge on Gogol Street.
