Historical note
The Cherkasy River Station was built on the banks of the Kremenchuk Reservoir in the early 1960s, following the completion of the Dnieper cascade of hydroelectric stations. Constructed according to a standard design, the building features Soviet Neoclassical architectural style. During the Soviet era, the station served as a major transport hub for local river routes and high-speed transit hydrofoils like ‘Raketa’ and ‘Meteor’.
Present day
In the post-Soviet decades, regular passenger transport along the Dnieper River declined significantly, leading the building to lose its primary transportation purpose. The station’s premises have been leased to commercial enterprises and restaurants. While the overall architectural shape of the building remains intact, the surrounding square has undergone notable modifications.
