Card Hotel “Mir”, Railway Station area, ul. Lenin, Rivne, 1978

This collectible Soviet postcard from 1978 features a multi-view collage showcasing key urban landmarks and central thoroughfares of the city of Rivne (Rovno).

What is shown on the postcard

The postcard displays three distinct scenes of late 1970s Rivne. The top-left view shows the modern eight-story Hotel “Myr” with its signature neon rooftop sign and a bus passing by. The bottom-left view captures a section of the Railway Station building at Pryvokzalna Square, framed by flowerbeds and landscaped areas. The right-hand vertical segment depicts a perspective of Leninska Street (now Soborna Street) with active vehicle traffic, lush greenery, and residential high-rises.

Historical note

Hotel “Myr” was built as part of the post-war modernization of Rivne’s city center on Mitskevycha Street, becoming one of the city’s premier hotel complexes for Soviet and foreign visitors. The Rivne Railway Station, designed in the Soviet neoclassicism style by architect P. F. Melnyk and completed in 1952 to replace the station destroyed during World War II, served as the primary gateway to the region. Leninska Street (now Soborna Street) was the main transport and civic spine of the city, central to its modern architectural development.

Present day

Today, Hotel “Myr” continues to operate, retaining its original structure while undergoing interior and facade modernizations. The Railway Station on Pryvokzalna Square remains the key transit hub of the city, with its historic building well-preserved. The main street has been renamed Soborna Street, and while some building reconstructions have occurred along it, the overall planning structure and spatial layout have remained intact since the Soviet era.
