What is shown on the postcard
The front of the postcard features three images. On the right is a large photograph of the theater building in the Soviet Classicism style, with a massive portico, columns, and a sculptural composition on the pediment. Teatralna Square with a few pedestrians is visible in front. Top left: an inset showing two young women in an art studio with plaster busts. Bottom left: a scene of a children’s ballet performance under bright stage lights.
Historical note
The Rivne Regional Music and Drama Theatre was founded in 1939. The modern building on Teatralna Square was constructed in 1960 according to a design by architects K. Prutsakov and V. Novikov. During the Soviet period, the theater was named after the writer Mykola Ostrovsky.
Present day
Today, the institution is known as the Rivne Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre. The building has preserved its original architectural appearance and continues to serve as the main theatrical center of the Rivne Oblast.
