Historical note
The complex was constructed between 1864 and 1882 as the Residence of Bukovinian and Dalmatian Metropolitans, designed by the Czech architect Josef Hlávka. During the Soviet period, it housed various faculties of Chernivtsi State University, originally founded in 1875.
Present day
Today, the architectural ensemble serves as the main campus of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. In 2011, the site was inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage List.
